A. Herbert Lambert

A. Herbert Lambert, 69, of Morganton, NC died Monday, January 6, 2014. Born in Burke County, NC on January 23, 1944, he was the son of the late Francis Alfred Lambert and Bessie Cornelia Smith Lambert. Herbert was retired but had worked for N.C. Correctional Enterprises. He loved the outdoors, fishing, and car racing and as a young man he loved softball.Herb is survived by his wife, Nelda Hildebrand Lambert of the home; a daughter, Rema R. Lambert of Morganton; a brother, Earl Lambert; sisters, Mary Ruth Price and her husband, Falls, of Drexel, NC and Irene Carswell of Morganton; a sister-in-law, Robin Lambert of Granite Falls, NC; and his adopted siblings, Imogene Franklin of Morganton and Leroy Abernathy and his wife, Henrietta, of Morganton; and a number of nieces and nephews. Herb also has a great many friends and hunting buddies whom he greatly enjoyed.In addition to his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by five brothers, David, S., Wayne, William "Bill", John T. and Clyde Lambert; a sister, Margaret Thornburg; his adopted parents, Oran and Julia Abernathy; and his adopted siblings, Jimmy Abernathy, Larry Abernathy, Jerry Abernathy, Rebecca Bentley, and Bobby Abernathy.The graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Burke Memorial Park with Elders Rex and Gene Lail officiating. The family will receive friends at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center on Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:30 pm.
