Ada S. Wyatt, 88, of Grace Ridge, Morganton, NC and a former Valdese, NC resident, died Monday, October 20, 2008 at Grace Ridge following a period of declining health. Born May 3, 1920 in Burke County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Charles Manuel Smith, Sr. and Mary Brown Smith. For many years, Ada was an active member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Valdese, and for over forty years, she was an employee of Alba Waldensian Textiles. She served as a foster grandparent at Western Carolina Center. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Wesley Wyatt; brothers, Charles Manuel Smith, Jr. and Arnold Smith; and sisters, Clara Rhoney and Mildred Smith.Surviving are heer son, Thomas L. Wyatt of Charleston, SC; sisters, Juanita Brittain and her husband, John of Valdese and Pauline King of Chattanooga, TN; brother, Roy Smith and his wife, Linda of Morganton; and a number of nieces and nephews including a special niece, Jane Howell of Lake Lure, NC.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at Mount Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Marion Powell officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes before the funeral hour. At other times, the family will be at the home of Juanita and John Brittain, Conservation Camp Rd., Valdese.
