Adam Philip Whalen

Adam Philip Whalen, 22, of Inglewood Dr., Morganton, NC died Sunday, September 21, 2008 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born on October 3, 1985 in Burke County, NC and was the beloved son of Kenneth and Diane Ritchie Whalen of Morganton. Adam was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.In addition to his parents, Adam is survived by his sisters, Kristine Vance and her husband, Jason, of Morganton, Andrea Longo and her husband, Michael, of Lenoir, Correy Whalen of Morganton, and Stacey Whalen-Hall and her husband, Brock, of Morganton; paternal grandmother, Ruth Whalen, of Morganton; and maternal grandmother, Margaret Ritchie, of Concord, NC.He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Fred Whalen, Jr.; maternal grandfather, Jack Ritchie; and maternal grandmother, Betty Beaudry.A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with Father Kenneth Whittington officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and Western North Carolina, Johnston Building, 212 S. Tryon St., Suite 1080, Charlotte, NC 28281.
