Aileen Hughes Dean

Aileen Hughes Dean, 82, of Zion Rd. in Morganton was escorted into Heaven by her husband, Wade Ray Dean, Sr., a granddaughter, Kendall Michelle Metts, and her sisters, Tish Sparks, Anna Ollis, Bert Gouge, Fannie Massey, and Ora Gragg on Monday, September 6, 2010. Her death at Grace Hospital was unexpected. She was born on April 5, 1928 in Avery County, NC, and was a daughter of the late Mac and Della Ollis Hughes. Aileen was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a retired employee of Broughton Hospital and an avid gardener.Aileen is survived by a son, Ray Dean and wife, Hazel, of Morganton; daughters, Sandy Dean Richey and husband, Steve, of Taylorsville, NC, Judy Dean Orders and husband, Allen, and Sheila Dean, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Michael Branch and wife, Misty, Justin Orders, and wife, Stephanie, and Nicky Metts; great-grandchildren, Kendall Paige Branch, Peyton Orders, Greyson Orders, Kendall Trey Metts, and Kandice Abshire; great-great-grandchildren, Kaydance, McKenzie, and Brody; a brother, Leslie Hughes of Newport News, VA; sisters, Elnora Graybeal of North Cove, NC, and Georgia Carpenter of Cranberry, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes before the funeral hour.
