Alfred Leslie Perry, 68, of NC 181, Morganton, NC died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at Memorial Mission Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Burke County, NC on April 4, 1937 and was a son of the late J. Von Perry and Harriet Nanena Beck Perry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Craig Perry. Mr. Perry was a veteran of the U. S. Army where he was stationed in Germany. As a member of the Baptist faith, Alfred loved to read the Bible daily. He operated Perry’s Exxon for many years and was a mechanic specialist in Ford 8 N tractors. Alfred was an avid history buff especially of the Old West and was a collector of Native American artifacts. He loved music and playing the guitar.
Surviving are brothers and their wives, Joel V. and Sue Perry of Raleigh, NC and Randall H. and Norma Perry of Morganton; sisters and their husbands, Nanena and Harmon Clontz and Rebecca and Alex Smith, all of Morganton; nieces and nephews, Eric Perry, Paige Perry, Christal Mangum, Shanda Epley, Melanie Harris, Jeffrey Clontz, Mark Clontz, Bradley Clontz, Cynthia Franklin, Aaron Smith, and Waylon Smith; and 18 great nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 17, 2006, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Ralph May officiating. Burial will follow in the Hemphill Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home.
