Alfred Taylor Patton

Alfred Taylor Patton, 76, of Morganton died Friday, May 25, 2018.  Born in Burke County, NC on March 23, 1942, he was the son of the late Hence and Edith Patton.  Mr. Patton owned and operated A.T. Patton Grading for many years, but his true passion was his family.  He served as a Burke County Commissioner from 1988 to 1992.  He was a devout, active member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.  Alfred was the most loving, kind, and generous person anyone ever met.  He was loved!

Mr. Patton is survived by his wife of 20+ years, Mary Dopson Patton of the home; children, Jeff (Susan) Patton, and Cheryl Patton Stewart; step-children, Patti (Jason) Roehrig, and Julie Lott; grandchildren, Tyler (Shanae) Gantt, Alex Patton, Samantha Patton, Anna (Jaimeson) Walker, Dylan Brown, Amber (Perry) Young, Justin Lott, Travis Lott, and Shelby Lott; great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Lottie, and Jack; brothers, Len (Nancy) Patton, Troy (Joann) Patton, David Patton, and Edward (Karen) Patton; sisters, Eldorado (Dallas) Norman, Edith (Darrell) Worsham, and Kaye (Carl) Cline; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Alfred was preceded in death by an infant son; brothers, Una, Ronnie, Don; Robert, ,Nelson, Harold, Logan, John Wesley, Jacob, Doug, Willard Patton; and sisters, Rosa Lee Patton, Fannie Patton, Bertie Patton Branch, and Elizabeth Lane.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, May 27, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 28 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Gantt officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  At other times the family will be at the home on Patton Road.
