Alice Bullard Baia, age 93, passed away peacefully in her home on February 11, 2022 surrounded by family and friends. Born in Framingham, Massachusetts on May 20, 1928 to Freeman and Katherine Bullard, Alice attended nursing school in Massachusetts and worked as a registered nurse before meeting her husband Robert P. Baia. The two married on February 22, 1951 and spent the next 67 years together raising their family and moving to numerous states across the country.
Alice and Bob settled in Morganton in 1980 and quickly became active community members. Alice was happiest when spending time with her family and friends. She was a devoted and loving mother, Nana, and Great-Nana. Additionally, she enjoyed reading, quilting, playing golf, and bridge, though she always insisted that she was not very good at the latter two. She also spent time volunteering at Salem and Mull Elementary, reading with students. She will be remembered most of all for her endless compassion and kindness for others.
Alice is survived by her three daughters, Christine Bustard and husband John, Barbara Baia, and Terry Morris and husband Shannon, her brother Rich Bullard and sister Barbara Bullard, six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. A memorial graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Amorem (formerly Burke and Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care).
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
