Alice Perkins

Alice Perkins, 92, of Morganton passed away peacefully at Grace Ridge Retirement Community on Friday, October 12, 2018.  Born in Burke County, NC on August 19, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Glenn and Beulah Whisnant.  Alice was a life-long member of Zion Baptist Church where she played piano for 22 years and organ for 33 years.  She was always eager to serve her church and Lord in whatever role that was needed and always did so with a smile.  She worked for the Agricultural Office of the federal government for 29 years, 9 months before retiring to stay at home with her daughter.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Susan Hudson (Todd) of Hickory; grandchildren, Asia Hudson Cockerham (Adam), Haven Hudson Hackett (Riddim), John William, and Ryder Perkins Hudson; great-granddaughter, Isla Cockerham; brother, Joe Whisnant (Dorothy) of Morganton; sister, Vera Ollis of Morganton; and nieces, Donna Ollis and Janet Wease (Bill), along with several other nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband, John Perkins, Jr.; infant daughter, Ann Carol Perkins; and brothers, Herbert and Russell Whisnant.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Zion Baptist Church.  The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the church with Rev. Keith Rose, Dr. Ralph May, Rev. David Orders, and Dr. Steve Parker officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
