Alma Jean Ballard Corkran

Alma Jean Ballard Corkran, 83, of Morganton went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 8, 2017.  Born in Princeton, WV on July 8, 1934, she was one of 14 children of the late Baldwin Ballard and Martha Kendall Ballard.  Jean was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Conover and was active in the ladies’ auxiliary of the Lion’s Club.  She was a talented seamstress and was a dedicated mother and grandmother who loved her family.

Mrs. Corkran is survived by her son, Timothy David Corkran of Mountain View, NC; daughters, Debra Corkran of Morganton and Rebecca Beech and husband, Don, of Valdese, NC; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruby Crews.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Connor Corkran, Jr.; daughter, Linda Corkran Davis; and 12 siblings.

The family will receive friends from 12 to 1pm, Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.  The memorial service will be held at 1pm in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Rudy DeRosa officiating.
