God reached down on Sunday, March 10, 2024 and took Alvin Smith into His arms.

Born in Burke County, NC on May 18, 1962, he was the son of the late Charles “Melvin” Smith and Dorothy “Dot” Ethel Stamey Smith.

Mr. Smith had attended Catawba Valley Baptist Church. Alvin was a jack of all trades and a master of none. He was a self-employed carpenter and landlord. He loved being on the water and had managed Mimosa Boat Landing for five years. He was a hands-on father.

Alvin is survived by his wife of 22 years, Tammy Browning Smith, sons, Steven and Daniel Smith; father-in-law, Jerome Browning; and walking buddy, Princess.

In addition to his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Helen Browning, and his beloved, Sissy.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, March 16, 2024. The graveside service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Catawba Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

I loved Alvin very much. Me, Alvin, Bobby, Ronnie, Debbie and Kim spent a lot of nights and days on that houseboat! Lol great times! He was a good heart. Melvin and mama (Becky) and Dogwood used to go up to the lake and stay. I’m so sorry for his loss and prayers to his family. Much love! A wonderful cousin. Wish I’d seen him more often…
