Amanda S. Mabe

Amanda S. Mabe, 84, of Morganton, NC, died Friday, April 22, 2016. She was born in Burke County on October 14, 1931 to the late John G. Mabe, Sr. and Lollie S. Mabe. She was a member of Summit Community Church, formerly Calvary Baptist Church. She was retired from Broughton Hospital as a secretary to the maintenance supervisor. One of her favorite pastimes was being a babysitter to many families in Morganton over the years and considered them family. Amanda was a loving caregiver to her friends and family all her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John G. Mabe, Jr.; sisters, Sara Shinaman, Betty Glasbrook; nephew, Craig Shinaman.
Amanda is survived by her nieces, Belinda Mascol of Ohio, and Donna Glasbrook of Raleigh; nephew, Brad Shinaman of Moravian Falls; brother-in-law, Sam Glasbrook of Drexel; and a number of great nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends from 11:00am until 12:00pm on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The service will begin at 12:00pm in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to Burke Hospice & Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690 or to a charity of one’s choice in Amanda’s name.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
