Angela Smith Metcalf

Angela Smith Metcalf, 40, of Dysartsville Road, Morganton, NC died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, NC following a period of declining health. Born in Burke County, NC on August 8, 1969, she was the daughter of Tommy Pete Smith of Morganton and the late Martha Mae Deaton Smith. Angela loved to crochet and ride horses. Well known, she had never met a stranger.In addition to her father, Angela is survived by her son, Teddy Allen Mayfield; a brother, Johnny D. Smith; a sister, Denise Smith Hopson and husband, Chad; and a special friend, Keith Spurling; all of Morganton.In addition to her mother, Angela was preceded in death by her husband, Gwyn Richard Metcalf; a brother, Rodney Deon Smith; a sister, Rebecca Dee Smith; her paternal grandparents, Ivy and Lola Smith; and her maternal grandparents, Robert and Ella Deaton.The funeral will be held at 12:30 p.m., Monday, April 5, 2010 at Mountain View #2 Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Mashburn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. At other times the family will be at the father’s home on 4817 Dysartsville Road. Memorial contributions may be made to Sossoman Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
