Anita Case Stone Kugel, 78, of Valdese, NC peacefully passed on Friday, January 6, 2017 at her home with her family by her side. Born in Lebanon, Tennessee on April 17, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Estill Lee Stone and Edith Case Stone. She was a member of First Baptist Church Deaf Mission.
Mrs. Kugel graduated from the Tennessee School for the Deaf and from Gallaudet University with a B.S. in Home Economics. She began teaching at the North Carolina School for the Deaf in 1966, from which she retired. She was very active in the annual school homecoming activities. Anita was a member of the Viva Club, the Deaf Tarheel Red Hat Society, the Deaf Bridge Club (one of the founders), and of Deaf Seniors of America. She was extraordinarily talented with arts and crafts and loved to sew and cook.
Mrs. Kugel is survived by her son, Joshua Kugel of Valdese; a daughter, Connie Allison Kugel Lawson of Shelby, NC; 5 grandchildren, Brianna, Joshua, Janessa, Keith, and Stefanie; and 2 great-grandchildren, Nick and Coldyn.
In addition to her parents, Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Stephan Percy Kugel; a sister, Sarah Lou Case Williams; and a son-in-law, Andy Lawson.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 pm, Thursday, January 12, 2017 in the First Baptist Church Parlor. The memorial service will follow at 3 pm in the chapel with the Rev. Tom Lineberger officiating.
