Ann Dietz, 82, of Morganton, NC, died Thursday, May 23, 2024.

Born in Nash County, NC, she was the daughter of the late James Allen Newell and Lottie Mae Smith Tallent.

Ann was a member of Quaker Meadows Presbyterian Church where she did the newsletter, was an elder, and was a lay minister for over 12 years. Mrs. Dietz served on the board and was a former vice president of AARP. She is a veteran of the US Army and served in the Women’s Army Corp (WAC). She was the first female commander of American Legion Post 21. Ann was also a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, was a former board member and treasure of the Burke County Rescue Squad, was secretary and on the board of NC Landlords Association, and was a Pink Lady at Grace Hospital.

Ann is survived by her brother, David William Ross (Diane); and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her husband, John Dietz; son, William “Bill” Russell Dietz; and sister, Gwen Watts.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Quaker Meadows Presbyterian Church with Pastor Rick Leissner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends following the services.

Memorial contributions may be made to Quaker Meadows Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 2698 NC 181, Morganton, NC 28655.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
