Anne Sheffield

Anne Sheffield, 75 of Carrboro, NC passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2021 after a year long battle with glioblastoma. Born in Lincolnton, NC on March 12, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Ruth Karmiol.  Although she grew up in Queens and later in Garden City, NY she loved family trips in summer to the NC mountains to visit cousins.  She attended nursing school at Duke University and served in the Navy ROTC. She then graduated with her Masters in Childhood Psychology from the University of West Florida in Pensacola.  She moved to Chapel Hill, NC in 1980, and worked as a guidance counselor at Culbreth and McDougal Middle Schools until she retired in 2008.  Her interests included gardening, photography, and traveling, but her greatest passion was SCUBA diving and photographing all her underwater explorations around the world. 

An adventurous and loving woman, Anne is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Sheffield (Brad Naff); son, Kevin Jensen (Yvonne Chu); grandchildren, Ava Naff, Colin, Ellie, and William Jensen; sisters, Donna Wagner, Linda Gabriel (Brad); and her beloved chihuahua, Piper. 

In addition to her parents, Anne is preceded in death by her son, Andrew Jensen.

The funeral will be held Sunday, November 28, 2021 at 3 p.m. in the Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum in Morganton, NC.  The family will receive friends at Sossoman Funeral Home from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. before the service.
