Annie Laura Williams Patton, 83, departed this world Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 1:22 p.m. Born in Burke County, NC on August 21, 1926, she was the daughter of the late W. C. "Cleve" Williams and Annie Dale Williams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Patton; brothers, Fred Williams and Vernon "Bud" Williams; a sister, Ruth W. McCarthy; and an infant granddaughter, Blair DeHart.
She is survived by her daughters, Cathy Morrison and husband, Gary, and Teresa DeHart and husband, Dan, all of Morganton; her granddaughters, Laura Morrison and Annie DeHart of Morganton and Brooke DeHart of Boone; and a special grandson, Derrick DeHart and wife, Meg, of Greensboro, NC.Annie Laura was a 1944 graduate of Glen Alpine High School and a former employee of Skyland Textile, Inc. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, aunt, cousin, neighbor, and friend. She sincerely cared for people and was especially generous to those less fortunate. So often, she shared her delicious home cooked food and gently used clothing with others. She genuinely loved people, had a unique sense of humor, and was quick to give a sincere compliment.Having grown up in the Wesleyan Methodist church, Annie Laura was a life member of Gibbs Chapel. Annie Laura proved herself to be a faithful servant to her Lord through various church ministries over the years. Next to her family, her church work and caring for others were her priorities. She faithfully served her God with her time and talents as a member of the church choir, Church Trustee, Local Board of Administration member, social committee member, and Sunday School secretary. She especially loved the young people of the church and supported the youth ministry both financially and in prayer consistently through the years.What a joyful homecoming Annie Laura had Saturday afternoon, January 23, 2010, when she reunited in Heaven with husband, Roy; her parents, Cleve and Annie; her brothers and sister, Fred, Bud and Ruth; her granddaughter, Blair; her friends and many relatives. But most importantly, Annie Laura is completely healed and enjoying eternity with her personal Savior, Jesus Christ.The funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m., Monday, January 25, 2010 at Gibbs Chapel Wesleyan Church with Rev. Roger Brackett, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the services. Memorial contributions may be made to Gibbs Chapel Wesleyan Church Youth, P.O. Box 603, Glen Alpine, NC 28628. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
