Ardith Whetstine Greene, 92, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, November 8, 2024 at Amorem Hospice of Valdese, NC. Ardith was born in Yancey County in the small community of Celo on March 26, 1932 to the late Frank and Lillie Whetstine.

Ardith was devoted to love in action. It was her gift, one that she worked at, unselfishly, her entire life. You could always count on Ardith. She loved doing things for her family, friends and neighbors. Many of her neighbors were more like extended family. She loved her Lord and she loved her church. She was a faithful member of Mt. Home Baptist Church. Ardith retired from “Western Carolina Center” (JIRDC) after about twenty-five years of service to care for her husband in his last years. They were married for fifty-two years. Later in life, she also cared for her dear friend, Henry Stewart, during his last years.

In addition to her parents, Ardith is preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Greene; brothers, Carl and JL Whetstine; sisters, Faye Stamey and Lela Quincey.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Clyde Greene and La Una Lovelace (Lou); grandchildren, Taylor Duckworth (Forest), Halee Fritz (Scott), Isaac Lovelace (Sarah), and Hannah Craigie (Colin); great-grandchildren, Emma Kate and Easton Fritz, Hadley and Everley Duckworth.

Ardith spent the last year of her life needing the care she so freely gave to others. Many thanks to The Berkeley of Morganton as she was well loved every day she stayed there. They laughed with her and took excellent care of her. Also, to Amorem Hospice that made her very last days comfortable and gave her peace till release. God has been good to Ardith and blessed her with many loving family members, friends, caring neighbors, plus a church that was just as faithful to her as she was to the church. It seems there are angels everywhere.

The family will receive friends from 12pm-1pm on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Mt. Home Baptist Church. Memorial service will follow at 1pm in the church.

As a memorial to Ardith, please serve others, be kind, love well, forgive quickly, pray every day, and support your church.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church, Mt. Home Baptist Church, 2272 Mt. Home Church Rd, Morganton, NC 28655.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

I knew your wonderful loved one when I lived on Skyland Drive and also by a mutual friend, Sonnie. I love the memorial request because that was exactly how Ms. Ardith lived her life daily. She was welcomed with, “well done my good and faithful servant”! Prayers

Ardith was my mom (Florence Carswell)) best friend. They worked together at the center for years and leaned on each other by praying for the world, family, church, each other and anything they knew needed God in it. Mom told me at times they would go to there Break room and say a prayer for whatever the need might be. I’m sure when mom saw Ardith come through heavens door she was thrilled. 2 friends back together again. Makes me happy to know they are together again.
