Arlis Greene

Arlis Greene, 92, of Morganton NC passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at the Burke Palliative Care Center. Born in McDowell County, NC on June 11, 1921, he was the son of the late Joe "Till" Greene and Mary Margaret Lowdermilk Greene. Arlis was a member of Asheville Street Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and church treasurer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and retired from Valdese Manufacturing.Arlis is survived by his children, Leonard Greene of Morganton, Judy Alexander and her husband, Lynn, of Drexel, NC, Kathy Powell and her husband, Danny, of Morganton, and Margaret Hill and her husband, Skip, of Old Fort, NC; grandchildren, David Greene, Heather Greene, Adam Feimster and his wife, Cristy , Sara Alexander, Ryan Alexander, Drew Powell and his wife Stacey, Sonya Powell; three great-grandchildren; and siblings, Joe Greene, Jewel Houk, Johnsie Chatham, and Ozelle Satelo.In addition to his parents, Arlis was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Ray Mills Greene; siblings, Margie Wright, Harold Greene, Jack Greene, and Gail Miller; and a daughter-in-law, Diana Greene.The funeral will be held at 2pm, Sunday, November 10, 2013 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with the Reverends Douglas Goforth, Sid Houk, and Henry Houk officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery on Dysartsville Road with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard.
