Arvel M. Barrier

Arvel M. Barrier, 71, of Morganton died Tuesday, July 22, 2014. He was born on September 30, 1942 in Jonas Ridge, NC and lived there until declining health lead him to move to Morganton. He then lived with his son and daughter-in-law, Martin and Jan Barrier, on Causby Road. Arvel was the son of the late Silas C. Barrier and Elcie Clark Barrier. He attended Jonas Ridge Baptist Church.

Arvel is survived by his children, Martin Barrier and his wife, Jan, Robert Barrier and his wife, Angie, and Leona Barrier, all of Morganton; two children of which he was legal guardian, James “Shorty” Burnette and Kim Burnette; grandchildren, Cody, Dillon, Candice, Noah, and Nicholus; a brother, Roy Barrier; sisters, Jane Holden and Stella Gallion; and a number of nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents, Arvel was preceded in death by a brother, Isaac Barrier; and two sisters, Alice Whetsel and Brenda Wheeler.

The graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 25, 2014 at Barrier Cemetery in Jonas Ridge.
