Audrey Aileen Bolick Simmons passed away peacefully March 14, 2025 at Magnolia Lane Nursing Home in Morganton, NC at the age of 98. She was the daughter of the late Robert & Mary Bolick.

Born in Hickory on September 6,1926, Audrey moved to Morganton with her parents at an early age. There she met and married her husband, Neil, together with whom she raised two children.

In her early years Audrey worked alongside her father, operating the Mimosa Café in downtown Morganton. She later worked at the Morganton Hosiery Mill, and afterwards as an office clerk for Henredon Furniture until retirement. She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.

After retiring, Mrs. Simmons enjoyed spending time with family & friends, cooking wonderful meals for company, traveling with her husband to the beach in their camper, and of course taking care of & spending time with her Grandson. Though not an accomplished musician, she played some piano by ear; Audrey’s lifelong appreciation for music brought her a great deal of joy and delight.

Though oftentimes subtle & reserved, Mrs. Audrey possessed a seldom-seen, yet wonderfully-fun, dry & blunt sense of humor; capable of putting a smile on many an unsuspecting face. Her unashamed love for sweets & treats (especially ice cream) in her later years, is truly only a small reminiscent adumbration of the sweet-natured & caring disposition Audrey displayed throughout life. A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a good friend to many; she will be greatly missed by all.

Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Dabney Cornelius “Neil” Simmons. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Dennis Simmons of Morganton; daughter Judy (Simmons) & husband Tom Newton of Linville; and Grandson Nathan (Simmons) Connelly.

A very special & heartfelt thanks to the Nursing & Healthcare staff at Magnolia Lane, along with countless individuals otherwise, who for many years have willingly and tirelessly dedicated their time & effort to provide Audrey care & comfort, and to all those who strived to enrich her last years in this life.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The graveside will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Forest Hill Cemetery.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
