Barbara Constance Bounous Wall

Barbara Constance Bounous Wall, 87, of Morganton died Wednesday, June 19, 2019.  Born in Burke County, NC on October 22, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Auguste Bounous and Constance Trumble Bounous.  As a toddler she went to live with her uncle and aunt, Daniel and Judith Bounous and was raised with their family as one of their own. At nine she went to live with her mother in New York for a short time, but returned to live with her aunt and uncle’s daughter Naomi and her husband John Rostan Jr. She loved Naomi as her sister, mother and best friend.

Barbara was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, a charter member of the Burke County Quilt Guild and helped deliver Meals on Wheels.  She was very active in First Presbyterian Church of Morganton and received the Presbyterian Women Honorary Life Membership Award. She served as chairwoman of the Presbyterian Women Love in Action Committee for many years. Barbara was a charter member of Burke County’s Nouveau Home Extension Club which became the source of many lifelong friendships. She loved handmade creations and excelled at many crafts. She especially loved quilting, making gingerbread houses and everything Christmas.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Walter LeRoy Wall of the home; children, Elizabeth Cobb (Gary), Leslie Earley (Bob), and Doug Wall (Ria); grandchildren, Jennifer and Tyler Cobb, Daniel and Anna Earley; brother, Eugene Bounous; her niece and namesake Barbara Erwin (Sam); cousins she considered her younger brothers, John (Janice) and Jim (Linda) Rostan and many other beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by a son, David Wall; and a granddaughter, Sarah Cobb, and adopted family, sisters, Jennette Bigham and Naomi Rostan; brothers, Daniel and Henry Bounous.

The graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Forest Hill Cemetery.  The memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Hagmann officiating.  The family will greet friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
