Barbara Reed Hester

Barbara Reed Hester, 82, of Morganton, NC went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 26, 2016. Barbara was born on February 16, 1934 in Franklin County, Alabama and was the daughter of the late Eugene Morrison Reed and Clara Burch Reed. Barbara was a member of Catawba Valley Baptist Church. She was a retired home economics teacher from Burke County Public Schools. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was generous, kind and compassionate. Barbara loved her family dearly. She loved life and embraced it to the fullest.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Vester Hester.
Barbara is survived by daughters, Ann Bolick of Grand Rapids, MI, June Williams and husband, Joe of Morganton; son, Lee Hester and wife, Dale of Pinehurst, NC; a brother, Bill Reed; sisters, Patty Gardner, and Bet Angwin; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Catawba Valley Baptist Church Fellowship Hall with Rev. Adam Teague officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Burke County Special Olympics, 200 Poteat Rd., Morganton, NC 28655 or to Options Womens Shelter, 412 East Meeting St., Morganton, NC 28655.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
