Barry Joe Wakefield

Barry Joe Wakefield, 67, of Morganton, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 5, 2022.  Born in Burke County, NC on August 20, 1954, he was the son of the late Lee McLendon Wakefield and Evelyn Charlotte Morris Wakefield.  Barry was a member of First Baptist Church in Morganton.  He was a veteran of the US Army.

Barry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who dearly loved his family.  He enjoyed golf, watching sports, and especially enjoyed traveling.  He liked racing and loved attending NASCAR races.

Barry is survived by his wife, Patsy Ramsey Wakefield; son, Joshua Hezekiah Wakefield; grandchildren, Kloie Elisabeth Wakefield and Holden Lee Wakefield; step-daughters, Wendy Michelle Carswell (Andy) and Laura McGhee (Jeffrey); step-grandchildren, Candis Carswell, Jason Campbell, and Morgan McGhee; brothers, Alan Ray Wakefield, Keith Patrick Wakefield, and David Wakefield; nieces, Blair Wakefield and Joy Wakefield; nephews, Jackie Lee Wakefield; and a number of extended family members.

In addition to his parents, Barry was preceded in death by a brother, Lee McClendon Wakefield, Jr.

The cryptside service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Burke Memorial Park with Rev. Fred Schuszler officiating.  The family will greet friends following the service.
