Baxter John Jaynes

Baxter John Jaynes, 72, of Camelot Dr. in Morganton died Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Grace Heights following a lengthy illness. He was born March 15, 1938 in Burke County, and was a son of the late Sherman Jaynes and Gladys Propst Jaynes. In addition to his parents, Baxter was preceded in death by a half-brother, Dennis Jaynes. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. Baxter was the first employee hired at Southern Devices in Morganton with 34 years of service. He was hired as a supervisor, but later became Plant Manager.Baxter is survived by his wife of 48 years, Faye Patton Jaynes of the home; sons, Jon Jaynes and wife, Angelia of Morganton, and Van Jaynes and wife, Robyn of Harrisburg, NC; grandchildren, Andrew Jaynes and Allyson Jaynes, both of Harrisburg, NC; and a half-sister, Anita Pond of Suffolk, VA.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. Homer Murdock officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home.
