Bertha A. Orders

Bertha A. Orders, 94, of Herron St., Morganton, NC died Thursday, November 25, 2010 at Grace Heights following several years of declining health. Born in Burke County, NC on May 24, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Lillie Duckworth Stroupe Orders. Since 1947, she had been a devoted member of Southside Baptist Church where she taught the young children’s Sunday School Class. She was affectionately known as "Aunt Bertha" by both family and everyone who knew her. For many years she worked at Morganton Full Fashion Hosiery Mill until leaving to care for her mother. Bertha was an outstanding cook. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Tilman, Roy, and J. P. Orders; sisters, Dorothy Orders Hutchinson and Mamie Orders Phillips; half brothers, Grover and Albert Stroupe; and a half sister, Ollie Stroupe Orders.Miss Orders is survived by a host of nephews and nieces including Allen and Danny Orders who provided special care for Bertha in her later years; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Orders, Jean Orders, and Maggie Lou Roberson.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the church.
