Bertha R. Miles

Bertha R. Miles, 91, of Morganton, NC died Saturday, March 02, 2013 at Autumn Care of Drexel. Born in Royston, GA on April 18, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Frank Roland and Ada Ferguson Roland. Bertha was a member of Southside Church of God in China Grove, NC and was a friend of St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Morganton. Bertha was a pastor’s wife and a professional mom. She was an excellent cook, and a talented seamstress.

Bertha is survived by her sons, Dr. Richard Miles and his wife, Melanie of Morehead, KY and Robert David Miles of Morganton; a daughter-in-law, the Rev. Joyce Miles of China Grove; two grandchildren, Laura and Nathan Miles, also of Kentucky; and a special family friend, Sybil Barrier.In addition to her parents, Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. E. H. Miles; a son, Rev. Douglas Miles; three brothers; and four sisters.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2013 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home, 1011 S. Sterling St. in Morganton with the Rev. Jerry Tow, the Rev. Heather Kilbourne, and the Rev. Joyce Miles officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.
