Bertha R. Smith

Bertha R. Smith, 97, of Morganton, NC went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 25, 2012. Born in Burke County, NC on October 8, 1914, she was the daughter of the late John Lee Robinson and Ida Mae Watts Robinson. Bertha was of the Baptist Faith. She loved to garden and can vegetables.Bertha is survived by her son, Harry "Riddle" Smith of Morganton; a granddaughter, Sandy Johnson of Morganton; and a great-grandson, Nicholas Johnson of Morganton; sisters, Lillie Mae Neil, Pat Pritchard, and Bessie Robinson, all of Morganton; and a number of nephews and nieces.In addition to her parents, Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Riddle Smith; brothers, Lee Robinson and Boyd Robinson; and sisters, Velvie Smith and Mamie Buff.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 28, 2012 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.
