Betty Brown Sigmon, 78, of Brown Orchard Dr., Drexel, NC, died Thursday, February 10, 2011. Mrs. Sigmon was born June 21, 1932 in Burke County to the late Millard Brown and Ila Mae Buff Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Hazel Bean Brown. She was a member of Drexel First Church of God, where she served as captain of the prayer chain; she was a faithful prayer warrior. Mrs. Sigmon worked at Western Carolina Center and North Carolina School for the Deaf in food service, retiring from NCSD after 20 years of service to the state.Mrs. Sigmon is survived by her husband of 63 years, Ralph Edward Sigmon; a son, Dale Sigmon and his wife, Roxie; daughters, Glenda Stephens and her husband, Ronald, and Carol Whisnant all of Drexel; brother, Charles Brown and his wife, Shirley, of Drexel; grandchildren, Lynn Brown and her husband, Michael, Amy Overbay and her husband, Adam, and Jonathan Sigmon and his wife, Tuesday; great grandchildren; Anna Brown, Dylan Brown, Virginia Overbay, Daniel Overbay, Annelise Sigmon and Madeline Sigmon and a number of nieces and nephews.Funeral services for Mrs. Sigmon will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Drexel First Church of God with Rev. Larry McCaw officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friend from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., prior to the service.
