Betty Harrell, 63, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 8, 2024.

Born in Yancey County, NC on March 31, 1961, she was the daughter of the late James Kelly Layell and Mary Thelma Stiles. Betty was a member of Central Baptist Church. She enjoyed baking, playing Rummy, watching soap operas, and playing Jokers and Marbles, a board game. Betty was an excellent cook and a kind, gentle, loving, strong caregiver.

Mrs. Harrell is survived by her husband of 3 years, Gary Harrell; son, Billy McGee; daughter, Wendy Crawley; beloved grandchildren, Hunter Seagle, Karigan Seagle Poteat, and Jennifer Barrier; great-grandson, Tobias Conley; sister, Teresa Layell; sister-in-law, Sebrenia Arrowood; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Kelly Layell; and a sister, Brenda Ross.

The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m., Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Central Baptist Church (108 Murphy Court, Morganton, NC). The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. in the church with Rev. Anthony Ray officiating. Burial will follow Hillcrest Cemetery in Valdese.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
