Betty Huffman Denton

Betty Huffman Denton, 78, of Burkemont Rd., Morganton, NC died Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at Grace Heights following a period of declining health. Born in Burke County on February 5, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Rufus F. and Hettie Smith Huffman. She was a retired food service employee of the Burke County Schools and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where for many years, she taught the Beginners Sunday School Class. Betty was an avid gardener and cook, and she loved to can all of her home grown foods. In Addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde A. Denton; daughter, Beverly Chester; brothers, Clata, Roy and Dewey Huffman and sisters, Pearl Horne and Mary Carswell.Surviving are a sister, Beulah E. Huffman; a grandson, Joshua O. Chester; a son-in-law and his wife, Owen and Tomi Chester, and Tomi’s daughter, Jenny Butler all of Morganton; a number of nieces and nephews.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 11, 2007 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Larry Cline officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the residence of Beulah Huffman, 1135 Mtn. Glen Circle, Morganton, NC.
