Betty J. Lane

Betty J. Lane, 77, of Morganton, died Monday, January 28, 2013 following a period of declining health. She was born in Johnson City, TN. On December 31, 1935 and was the daughter of the late Walter Niles Keyes and Emma Kate Jenkins Keyes. Betty worked for the late Dr. Riggs and then was a recruiter for the personnel office at Broughton Hospital for over 25 years. She was a member of North Morganton United Methodist Church.Surviving are her husband, Ralph E. Lane of the home; daughters and their husbands, Donna and Jeff Towery of Morganton and Leslie and Henry Jones of Leesburg, GA; grandchildren, Adam and Emily Towery and Will and Jessi Jones; her brother, Bobby D. Keyes of Franklin, TN; a very special aunt, Grace Jenkins of Gray, TN; and a number of nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2013, at North Morganton United Methodist Church with Rev. Neill Shaw officiating. Inurnment will follow at the church columbarium. The family will receive friends Thursday one hour before the service. Memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s honor to North Morganton United Methodist Church and to the church youth ministry, 990 Sanford Drive, Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with arrangements.
