Betty Jane Franklin Ross, 93, of Morganton, NC, died Wednesday, June 12, 2024.

Born in Burke County, NC on February 8, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Robey Franklin and Cora Wilson Franklin.

Betty was an active member of Mt. Home Baptist Church for 70 years. She was director of the Women’s Mission Union and ran the nursery program, along with various other jobs at the church for a number of years. Prior to Mt. Home, she attended Hopewell Baptist Church. Betty enjoyed reading, working puzzles, coloring, and had a green thumb. She was an excellent mother and grandmother who loved her family “with all my heart.”

Mrs. Ross is survived by her children, Cathy Smith (Jerry), Ginger Whisnant (Allen), Ronald “Pete” Ross, and John Ross (Gail); former daughter-in-law, Rhonda Ross; grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Angela Smith, Megan Rich, Douglas Ross, Patrick Ross, John Fitzgerald, John Ross, Casey Caudel, Derick Caudel, and Paul Caudel; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Luther “Bud” Franklin (Frances); and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, John Pete Ross; daughter-in-law, Kelly Ross; and siblings, Lewis Franklin, Arthur Franklin, Mary Lou Crump, Mattie Pearl Franklin, Kitty Sue Cobb, Dorothy McCall, and Ida Bell.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Mt. Home Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the church with Rev. Rocky Hartman and Rev. David Orders officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
