Betty Jane Isaacs Clawson died peacefully at UNC Health Chapel Hill, North Carolina on September 6, 2022.  She was 82 years old.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, the late Robert Walter Clawson.  Born in Boone, North Carolina on October 18, 1939, Betty was the daughter of Grove Cleveland Isaacs and Clidia Ella Courms Isaacs.  She was also preceded in death by her cherished son, Steve Robert Clawson; son-in-law, Dr. Luther Hall Clontz, Sr.; and three brothers, William, Alan, and L.C. Isaacs.

She loved her range of roles throughout life, as a Christian, daughter, sister, spouse, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, neighbor and employee.  She served each of these roles passionately and with devotion.  She considered her life an extension of God’s grace.

Betty loved her time with family, her large extended family and her friends.  Her number of friends grew on a daily basis because she loved and accepted everyone.  She also loved attending church, time with children, music, singing, the beauty of flower gardens and her connections with people through letter writing and sending greeting cards.  She found peace sitting on her front porch having conversations with family, neighbors and friends while viewing nature’s landscape of seasonal changes.

Betty is survived by daughter, Laura C. Clontz (Larry Pizzorni) and son, Scott A. Clawson (Heather); grand-children, Jacob J. Clawson (Jessica), Luther (Luke) H. Clontz, Jr., Geoff Clontz, Sr. (Pam), Deborah Barham, Dana Clontz, Hanna P. Kunkel (William), and Sophia Holtzclaw; great-grandchildren, Robert Clawson and Charlie Holtzclaw; beloved siblings, Martha Parks and James Isaacs.  Betty is also survived by brothers-in-law, Paul Combs, Bill and Dennis Clawson; sister-in-law Sue Gurley (Steve); and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of memorial gifting, you can best honor Betty’s memory by modeling her personal attributes of smiling, acts of kindness, portraying a gentle spirit, and demonstrating unconditional love.

Services will be held at Meat Camp Baptist Church in Boone, North Carolina at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 11, 2022.  A private graveside service will be held on Sunday. The family requests that masks be worn.

Sossman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
