Betty Kiker Bellas joined her Lord on Monday, June 5, 2017.
Betty was born in Wewoka, Oklahoma to Dewey and Nancy Kelly Kiker on November 22, 1933.
Betty retired from a career in government service having worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. and later for the Social Security Administration. Betty met her husband Bob while working in Washington, and after they were married they returned to Bob’s home in Larksville, Pennsylvania to raise a family. She lived in the back mountain area of the Wyoming Valley for many years and was a member of St. Francis Cabrini Parish.
She was a faithful member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Hickory, N.C., a member of the Burke County Master Gardeners’ Volunteer Association, an avid quilter and member of the Burke Quilters’ Guild, and a member of the Morganton Garden Club and Burke Arts Council. She volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and at Grace Hospital. She was also a devoted member of the Nouveau Home Extension Club and she loved her Nouveau Sisters like family.
Betty was preceded in death by John “Bob” Bellas, her husband of 61 years, her parents Dewey and Nancy Kiker, her brother Gene Kiker, and her sister Dorothy Goodridge.
She is survived by her son Eric, daughter-in-law Cindy, and granddaughter Faith, and a great niece Julie Cobb and a family friend, Anne Marie Souza, both of whom she considered as daughters.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 10 in the Sebastian Chapel at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Hickory, N.C., with Fr. Larry LoMonaco officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Carverton, Pennsylvania at a later date.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 921 2nd Street NE, Hickory, NC 28601.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family.
