Betty Parks Alwran, 87, of Morganton, NC died Sunday, November 22, 2015. Born in Burke County, NC on December 3, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Fred Ralph Parks and Mary Piercy Parks. Betty was a member of First United Methodist Church. She retired from Drexel Heritage in 1964 and lived in Shelby with her husband until his retirement in 1992. Mrs. Alwran loved to play Bridge and was a member of several local Bridge clubs.
Betty is survived by a sister-in-law, Ann Lynsdley Beasley of Gastonia, NC and a cousin, Jack Piercy and his wife, Pat, of Old Fort, NC.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Tunney Alwran of the home; her sister, Helen Parks; and a brother, Ned “Bus” Parks.
The family will receive friends from 10 – 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. John Fowler and the Rev. Charlotte Brendel officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.
