Betty Simpson Nisbet Royall

Betty Simpson Nisbet Royall, 92, of Hickory and a long-time resident of Morganton died Sunday, June 23, 2019.  Born in Buncombe County, NC on September 5, 1926, she was the daughter of the late William Price Simpson and Annie Mae McGimsey Simpson.  Betty was a member of First United Methodist Church in Morganton.  She was a high school English and drama teacher.  She retired from Burke County Public Schools having taught at Valdese and Freedom High Schools.

Betty is survived by her son, William Mark Nisbet of Salley, SC; daughter, Lynne McGhee (Tim) of Taylorsville, NC; grandchildren, Shelby Nisbet, Tristan Nisbet, Matthew McGhee, and Kelly McGhee.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Royall; brother, Bill Simpson; and sister, Carolyn Arney.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.  The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Dana McKim officiating.  Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.
