Betty Styers Harbison

Betty Styers Harbison, 86, of Morganton, NC passed away Friday, April 21, 2017. She was born in Davidson County, NC on December 16, 1930 and was the daughter of the late Sanford Cornelius Styers and Hester Evans Styers. Betty was a long-time member and Sunday school teacher at Grace Episcopal Church. She was employed at Burke County Public Schools for 30+ years and principal of Dogwood School at WCC. She enjoyed over 50 years with her bridge club friends. Betty was an avid reader and loved doing crossword puzzles.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Robert “Scope” Harbison, Sr.; brother, Dalford Styers; and sister, Jane Styers Reep.
She is survived by her children, Bobby Harbsion, Jr. and wife, Lynn Hamrick Harbison of Morganton, Steve Harbison of Hendersonville, and Anne Harbison Whisenant and Tony of Morganton; grandchildren, Jamie, Avery, and Evan Harbison, and Marlee Whisenant; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Emma Harbison.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, April 28, 2017 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with Reverend Deacon Michael Jenkins officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 4600 Park Road, Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209.
