Betty Sue Butler Braswell, 80, of Morganton, died Friday, October 15, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.She was born on April 25, 1930 in Hickory, NC to the late Alfred and Donie Chapman Butler. Betty attended Morganton High School. Subsequently, in the 1970’s, she received an adult high school diploma from Western Piedmont Community College.During the early and mid-1950’s, Betty worked at Broughton Hospital. Thereafter, she was a homemaker and devoted wife and loving mother. She was a lifelong member of Carswell Memorial Baptist Church.Betty loved vegetable gardening and took a lively interest in current events. She enjoyed meeting and talking to new people which served her well in the late 1980’s when she served as a Pink Lady at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.Left to cherish and honor her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Leanne Braswell, of Wilkesboro, NC. She is also survived by sisters Edna Carswell and Mildred Butler, both of Morganton, and a host of nephews, niece, and cousins.Betty was preceded in death by her husband Olen C. Braswell. In addition to her husband, Betty was preceded in death by sisters Margaret Smith and Jessie Cook and brothers Claude Butler, Ted Butler, and Fred Butler.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 19, 2010 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. James Green officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Forsyth Medical Center Foundation, 3333 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
