Billy H. McFarlin

Billy H. McFarlin, 81, of Drexel, NC died Saturday, February 20, 2016.  Born in Stephens County, GA on July 26, 1934, he was the son of the late Alfred McFarlin and Katie Garner McFarlin.  He was a retired employee of BASF, Inc. in Morganton.

Mr. McFarlin enjoyed spending his days gardening, hunting, and going to the beach.  His smile was contagious. He loved his family and found happiness every day when they came to visit.  Billy loved all animals, including those that came to his doorstep or by way of his children.

Billy is survived by his son, William “Will” McFarlin and his wife, Sheila, of Morganton; a daughter, Margo C. McFarlin of Morganton; step-children, DeAnna Chester and her husband, John, and Donna Huffman, all of Lenoir; step-grandchildren, Autumn and Jonas Laws; a sister, Mazie Harrison of Toccoa, GA; and numerous nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Orders McFarlin; his second wife, Doris Jewell McFarlin; five brothers, Dan, Charles, Ray, Carl, and Hollis McFarlin; and four sisters, Morene Robinson, Frances Sherrif, Lucille McFarlin, and Alfie Jackson.

The family will receive friends from 12 – 1:30 p.m., Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday at Winkler’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Ronnie L. Jewel officiating.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
