Bobby R. Dobson

Bobby R. Dobson, 77, graduated to his Heavenly home after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday September 1, 2013. He was born in Burke County on May 4, 1936 and was a son of the late Clifton Jonas and Nettie Cline Dobson. Bobby was a U. S. Army veteran and was a retired employee of MDI. He also owned and operated along with his wife, Shirley, the Dogwood Greenhouse, and he delivered the paper for the Morganton News Herald for several years. As a life-long member of North Morganton Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and on numerous other boards. Bobby was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and leaves behind his feline companion, Cinnamon.Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Shirley Clark Dobson; daughters, Debbie Dobson of Morganton and Crissie Propst and her husband, Scott of Granite Falls; grandchildren, Morgan and Sydney Propst; mother-in-law, Lillian C. Monn: sister-in-law, Lorene Dobson; and his aunt, Betty C. Mathis all of Morganton. He is also survived by two nieces; several great nephews and nieces and numerous extended family members.In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his brother, Clifton Dobson, Jr.The funeral will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at North Morganton Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park with military honors conducted by the NC National Guard. The family will receive friends Wednesday at the church from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to North Morganton Baptist Church, 101 View St., Morganton, NC 28655.
