Bobby “The Patch Man” Vernon McGhinnis, 82, of Morganton, NC passed away Sunday, December 24, 2017 at Burke Palliative Care. Born February 23, 1935 in Burke County, he was the son of the late Robert Lee McGhinnis and Ruth Mae Hawkins McGhinnis.
Mr. McGhinnis was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. He had a lifetime of involvement with Boy Scouts of America. Making walnut crosses and handing them out to family, friends and acquaintances gave Bobby much pleasure.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years, Frances Pauline Orders McGhinnis; daughter, Robin Baker; and step-father, Sam Carswell.
Those left behind to remember and cherish his memory are sons, Mark McGhinnis and Tim McGhinnis both of Morganton; son-in-law, Rev. Kenny Baker of Morganton; sisters, Faye Sloan and husband, Joe and Janey Jugar all of Morganton; grandchildren, Heather, Kacee, Adam, Ursula, and Summer; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
The memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Salem United Methodist Church with Reverends Norman Jones, David Orders and Kenny Baker officiating. The family would be honored to have members of Boy Scouts of America in attendance.
