Boyd Byrd

Boyd Byrd, 70, of Morganton died Tuesday, October 7, 2014. Born in Mitchell County, NC on December 11, 1943, he was the son of the late George Byrd and Irene Yelton Byrd. Boyd loved his family, enjoyed fishing and hunting, and was an avid gardener.
Mr. Byrd is survived by his wife, Louise Lewis Byrd of the home; a daughter, Lisa Byrd Branch and her husband, Larry, of Morganton; a son, Kenneth Byrd and his wife, Kim, of Drexel, NC; a step-daughter, Angie Simmons and her husband, Jeff, of Morganton; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Ed Byrd and his wife, Mary, of Marion, NC and Wayne Byrd and his wife, Pat, of Morganton; and sisters, Goldie Honeycutt and her husband, Howard, of Bakersville, NC, Alice Lewis and her husband, Roger, of Valdese, NC, and Ruth Brittain and her husband, Dale, of Morganton.
In addition to his parents, Boyd was preceded in death by a sister, Birdie Byrd.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 10, 2014 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with the Rev. Stacey Layne officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be held at 4:30 p.m., Friday at Garland Cemetery in Bakersville, NC with the Rev. G.B. Garland officiating.
