Boyd J. Yelton

Boyd J. Yelton, 81, a resident of Morganton Long Term Care for the past several years, went home to be with his Lord and to join loving family members on Friday, December 17, 2010 at Grace Hospital. Born February 12, 1929 in Rutherford County, NC, he was a son of the late Cletus and Estelle Towery Yelton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Thelma Y. Williams, Marie Y. Nichols, and Joyce Y. Isaacs; and by his brothers, Gerald and Bobby Yelton.Boyd was a longtime member of Bethel United Methodist Church on Bethel Rd. He loved everyone and led a joy filled life surrounded by loving family and friends. Boyd’s disability became "abilities" as long as he was physically able, and he found great happiness in helping his family which included chopping wood and killing snakes. His fondest times were spent outdoors. Boyd left a lasting impression on everyone he met and considered all of his acquaintances "buddies."

Surviving to cherish Boyd’s memory are his brothers, Donald M. Yelton and his wife, Frances of Indian Trail, NC and Wayne A. Yelton and his wife, Irene of Morganton; and a host of nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 19, 2010 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with the Rev. Clarence "Butch" Osborne officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour before the service.
