Burling Metcalf, 81, of Morganton, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 12, 2015. He was born in Swain County, NC on October 3, 1933 to the late Horace Metcalf and Carrie Helen Evans Metcalf. Burling was a member of Safe Harbor Independent Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, James Metcalf, J.D. Metcalf, Kelly Metcalf; sisters, Brenda Church, Vivian Mayfield and Hazel Carswell.
Burling is survived by wife, Ruby Metcalf; brother, Johnny Metcalf; step-children, Timothy Mayfield and wife, Polly, Theodore Mayfield, Teresa Courtney and husband, David; grandchildren, Michael Mayfield, Timothy Mayfield, Jr. and wife, Erica, Brian Mayfield, and Terry Mayfield; and great-grandchild, Mason Mayfield, all of Morganton.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 16, 2015 at Safe Harbor Baptist Church with Rev. Ralph Shuffler officiating.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
