Burts Lee Roper, 72, of Unions Mills, NC died Tuesday, October 28, 2014. Born July 28, 1942 in Burke County, NC, he was a son of the late Obe Roper and Lucy Smith Roper. Burts was a member of Danieltown Baptist Church in Cane Creek, NC, and a lifetime member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans. He and his wife owned and operated the Puppy Place at Jamestown Flea Market for many years.
Burts is survived by his son, Brent Lee Roper of Morganton; his daughter-in-law, Chasity Roper of Morganton; grandchildren, Brandon Lee Roper and Cody Benton; a sister, Aileen Roper Branch of Morganton; a brother, Wayne Roper of Marion, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janie Faye Owensby Roper; half-brothers, Earl, Dal, Wilson, and Charles Roper; and a half-sister, Ellen Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 1pm, Monday, November 3, 2014 at Denton’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Creig Lovelace officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements
