Callie Isenhower Gregory

Callie Isenhower Gregory, 88, of Morganton, NC died Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Grace Ridge. Born March

20, 1928 in Catawba County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Reuben C. and Laura Overcash Isenhower. Callie was a graduate of Catawba High School, Catawba, NC and of Kings Business School, Charlotte, NC. She and her husband, the late Lavone Gregory moved to Morganton in 1948 and managed Stanley’s Jewelers which they purchased in 1961 and established Gregory’s Jewelers which continues to operate today.  Callie was very active in her community as well as her church, Calvary Lutheran Church.  She was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Morganton Lodge where she was active with the B.P.O. Does.  She was a past President of the both the local and state Does organization. She was a past member of the Burke County Board of Health, the City of Morganton Downtown Revitalization Committee, Burke County United Way Board of Directors, Morganton Merchants Association, Burke County Board of Social Services, and the Phoenix Home Board of Directors.  She received the 1981 Burke County Woman of the Year from the Morganton Business and Professional Women’s Club.  At her church over the years, she served on the Church Council, was church treasurer, was Lay Chairman, was a Sunday School teacher, was a choir member, and was a member and past President of the Lutheran Women.  She also served the Lutheran Synod as Synodical Committee member and as a delegate to the Synod.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lavone Gregory who died in 1982; a brother, Forest Isenhower; sisters, Pauline Sigmon, Holton Thornburg, and Ruby Carpenter.

Surviving are her son, Steve L. Gregory and wife, Nancy of Morganton; granddaughters, Briana Gregory of Baltimore, MD and Brooke Miller Ledford and husband, Steven of Holly Springs, NC; and great granddaughters, Brynna and Bree Ledford.

The family will receive friends Sunday, October 30, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 31, 2016 at Calvary Lutheran Church with the Rev. Paul Carlson officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. Memorial gifts may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church, 119 N. King St., Morganton, NC or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC  28690.  The family expresses their heartfelt appreciation to the staffs of Grace Ridge and Burke Hospice for the outstanding care provided to Callie.
