Mr. Carl J. Morris, 89, of Morganton peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 11, 2015. Born in Cleveland County, NC on April 6, 1926, he was the son of the late Robert Louder Morris, Sr. and Zula Etta Ledford Morris. He was a member of Summit Church (formerly Calvary Baptist Church).
Carl was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving his time in Germany. He wrote a book about his days in Germany and about his time on the farm with his brothers and sisters. Along with his late wife, Judy Bradshaw, Carl made trips to Germany and various other countries. Mr. Morris retired from Broughton Hospital after 39 years of service. He then worked as a security guard for Dana Corporation.
Carl is survived by his daughter, Brenda Sparks and husband, Parnell, Morganton; Brenda’s mother, Lula Mae Morris; step-children, Beverly Bradshaw and Yvonne Sullivan, of Boiling Springs, NC and Boyd Bradshaw and wife, Amy, of Morganton; step-grandchildren, Macy and Hunter Bradshaw; sisters, Nannie Hunt and husband, Hugh, of Casar, NC, Margie Newton Drexel, NC, and Jennie Roper of Morganton; a brother, R. L. Morris, Jr. of Morganton; a special friend, Jean Mull; and a host of nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents and wife, Carl was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Bridges; and a brother, Howard Morris.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 13, 2015 from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jerry Gamble and the Rev. Dean Cook officiating. Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard.
