Carl Junior Speagle

Carl Junior Speagle, 76, of Grover Beaver Road, Glen Alpine, NC, died Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Autumn Care in Drexel following a period of declining health. He was born on July 8, 1931 in Burke County, NC to the late George Solomon Speagle and Maudie Cline Speagle. Carl was a former employee of Pitts Lumber Company in Glen Alpine and a retired employee of Henredon Furniture Company. He was an avid NASCAR and baseball fan. He loved to raise chickens and birds.Carl is survived by his wife of 33 years, Ione Smith Speagle of the home; an adopted son, Russell Speagle of Charlotte, NC; a step-son, David Smith and wife, Kay, of Glen Alpine; an adopted grandson, Ronnie Joe Speagle of Glen Alpine; surrogate daughters, Betty Bivens of Vale and Carol Ann Crump of Morganton, NC; grandchildren, Allen Smith and wife, Retha, of Longview, NC, Chris Smith of Glen Alpine and her fiancée Chris Curry, and Anthony Mull of Glen Alpine; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Eric, Casey, Ashlyn, Samantha, Miranda, Ocyona, and Marek; special cousins, Sadie White and Ray Cline; and several other nieces, nephews, and cousins.In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his first wife, Ellie Mull Speagle; brothers, Jonah, Lonnie, and Andrew Speagle; sisters, Hester Mull, Nellie Yancey, and Eula McMahan; and a step-son, Ronnie Mull.The funeral will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, May 4, 2008 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Reverends Paul Speagle and Dennis Carswell officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:30 until 4:00 p.m. before the service. At other times the family will be at the residence, 3892 Grover Beaver Road in Glen Alpine.
