Carl Rogers

Carl Rogers, 81, of Conley Rd., Morganton, NC died Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at Burke Palliative Care Center in Valdese following a period of declining health. He was born August 7, 1924 in Burke County, NC, and was a son of the late James Mickler Rogers and Florence Fisher Rogers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Rogers; and sisters, Leola Ingle, Mary Browning, and Louise Wellman. He was an active member of Silver Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. He enjoyed owning and operating Roger’s Used Cars during his retirement years. Carl also loved to fish. He was a US Army Air Corp veteran and served in Guam and Hawaii during World War II. Mr. Rogers was a devoted family man.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia Brittain Rogers of the home; a son, Carl "Eddie" Rogers and wife, Cindy of Lenoir, NC; daughters, Susan Rogers Toney and husband, Robert, and Catherine Patrice Mathis and husband, Johnny; brothers, Jimmy Rogers and wife, Virginia Ruth, and William Stanley Rogers and wife, Marie, a sister, Beulah Lee Dale, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Jason Vance, Stephen Rogers, Matthew Rogers, Travis Pons, and Christy Pons; step-grandchildren, Nicky Brittain, Shannon Harmon, Kelly Lingafelt, and Robbie Toney; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 18, 2006 at Silver Creek Baptist Church with Reverends Jesse Head, Darvy Hensley, and Lloyd Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
