Carlie Edford Lail

Carlie Edford Lail, 96, of Morganton, NC died Monday, October 28, 2013 at the Burke Palliative Care Center. Born in Burke County, NC on January 17, 1917, he was the son of the late Johnney Lail and Dona Lail. Carlie was a member of Smart’s Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He loved the Lord. Mr. Lail retired from Henredon Furniture Company and was an avid gardener.Carlie is survived by his children, Bonnie Smith and her husband, Marvin "Joe", Benny Lail and his wife, Geraldine, Carl Lail and his wife, Evelyn, Bernice Harmon and her husband, Larry, and Gerald Lail, all of Morganton; thirteen grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, Mr. Lail was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Beulah Mae Huffman Lail; a daughter, Sandra Elaine Lail; three sisters, Zula Peeler Costner, Dolly Mace, and Hattie Abee; and a brother, Vance Lail.The funeral will be held at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Smart’s Grove Baptist Church with the Reverends Charles Lewis and Finley McCoury officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service.Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
